Take Care of the Pack

NC State Students, Faculty and Staff:

Our nation and our world have unfortunately experienced several tragedies this year, including natural disasters and extreme acts of violence. We know these events have real impacts on members of the Wolfpack, and often on our overall community.

Since the academic year began we’ve witnessed, for example, hurricanes that ravaged Texas, the southeast and Puerto Rico, and a massively destructive earthquake in Mexico. We’ve seen hateful incidents that took a life in Virginia. This week, we experienced the beyond-words horrific shooting in Las Vegas.

NC State has students, faculty and staff come from across the United States and throughout the world, and there are undoubtedly many on campus who are directly impacted or have family members or friends personally effected by these and other tragedies. We also know these types of tragic events can significantly affect us even when we are not personally involved.

If the shooting in Las Vegas, recent hurricanes, or any other situation has you feeling depressed, fearful, overwhelmed or otherwise in need of support, students should not hesitate to contact one of the several counselors available 24 hours a day by calling 919-515-2423. Students can also visit the Counseling Center on the second floor of the Student Health Center on campus from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays. Faculty and staff can access confidential counseling through the university’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program by calling 866-467-0467.

Additional mental health and wellness resources, and a variety of other health and safety information, is available on the Protect the Pack website. Please take a few minutes to review this important information.

Please take care of yourselves, look out for and take care of other members of the Pack who might be struggling or hurting, and do not hesitate to talk with the many caring professionals here to help.
