Support Our Friends at UNC Charlotte

Dear NC State Community:

Our support and prayers are with the Niner Nation this morning. I know many of our students, faculty and staff have close ties to UNC Charlotte and the city. I encourage you today to reach out to your friends and peers down there, comfort them and encourage them as they try to make sense of this tragedy in the days ahead.

We grieve alongside them, and stand together to help them begin the healing process. If you are hurting or struggling, please connect with someone on campus who can help. We have caring professionals ready to assist in our Counseling Center for students and the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program.

While we hope and pray that a similar tragedy never happens on our campus, we must remain prepared. Please take a moment to review our active shooter guidelines and make sure you’re signed up to receive text messages from WolfAlert – this is how we send the most urgent safety messages to our campus. University Police also provide an active shooter training to groups upon request. If you are ever in danger, please call 919-515-3000 to reach University Police directly or 911. You can also reach emergency services from any one of our many blue light phones throughout campus.

It’s heartbreaking to reach out to you twice this week about instances of violence. As I said in my message earlier this week, NC State’s greatest strength is you – each and all of you. Together, we can support each other and the Niner community through an excruciatingly difficult time.
