Red and White Week

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

It is that time of year again, Wolfpack. Red and White Week has arrived! From October 28th through November 3rd, our university’s students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends are celebrating the many events that take place during our traditional Homecoming week. Red and White Week is NC State’s largest annual celebration as we reunite the entire Wolfpack family to celebrate traditions, philanthropy and community events.

NC State continues its tradition of service and community engagement by kicking off Red and White week with a blood drive. This drive is critical to replacing the 5,400 blood and platelet donations that were canceled due to Hurricane Florence. We are also hosting a canned food drive in the Park Alumni Center. I hope that many of you will find the time to donate blood or give to the Feed the Pack Food Pantry and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. I am continually inspired by the multitude of people at NC State who devote their time to serving the community.

Later this week, NC State will celebrate the dedication of Holmes Hall, formerly the University College Commons, in honor of Irwin Holmes, Jr. I encourage you all to attend the naming ceremony and hear Mr. Holmes’s story. He is an incredible individual and deserves to be honored for his commitment to the pursuit of knowledge, his perseverance, and his historic contributions to NC State and the ACC. I am proud to represent a university that honors diversity and its critical importance in our community, and I hope that you will attend this historic event.

My annual Fall Address will be on Friday, November 2 at 1 p.m. in Talley Student Union. I would love to see you all there as we celebrate NC State’s history of excellence, current success and extraordinary future. Later that evening, I hope you will join us at the Homecoming parade which will feature NC State’s Power Sound of the South Marching Band, a variety of student organizations, and our beloved Mr. and Ms. Wuf.

On Saturday, NC State football faces off against the Florida State Seminoles for the Homecoming game. More than 65 years ago, in 1952, the Seminoles and the Wolfpack kicked off against each other for the first time. That game was also an NC State Homecoming game, which ultimately ended in a Wolfpack win 13-7, and we’re confident in a similar result this year.

NC State’s Red and White Week is a valuable time of reflection and cohesiveness, as well as school pride and spirit. I am so grateful to be a part of such an outstanding community and have enjoyed seeing the Wolfpack family come together and celebrate in the past. I am sure that this week will bring many more exciting events and fond memories for all of us who call NC State home.
