Support for Hurting Members of Our Pack

NC State students, faculty and staff:

Our NC State community experienced the tragic loss of a member of the Wolfpack family near campus early this morning. We grieve with the student’s family and friends. The Raleigh Police Department is investigating the death, and they do not suspect foul play.

We are hurting over this heart-wrenching loss, and for others on and off campus this year. We recognize that this is a very difficult time for many in our Wolfpack. We also want you to know that the university has many caring and dedicated people and specialized support resources here to help you.

To help those in need, and to allow for mourning, counseling and reflection, the university will be offering expanded counseling services and space to connect at Talley Student Union tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 12 to 2 p.m. in room 3223. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to make use of these spaces and services.

The community is also encouraged to participate in the State of Wellness discussion and open forum with campus partners on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Talley Student Union, room 4101. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss challenges, learn about available resources and share ideas for how the university can better serve and support the campus community.

We recognize that there is a growing nationwide need for expanded mental health and well-being services and support for college students, faculty and staff. While we don’t have all  the solutions right now, know that we are committed to understanding the needs of our community and taking action where needed to support you. Please look for more information on the steps we’re taking in the weeks ahead.

If you are concerned about a student, colleague or friend, please take action by reviewing this helpful information from NC State Prevention Services. You can also make an online referral for a student or employee you are concerned about.

And if you are struggling, please know that you are not alone. You are a valued member of our Pack, and your community stands ready to help. Please reach out to someone you trust or to one of the resources listed below for support and care.

The following are on- and off-campus resources to help you be successful and feel supported:

More than anything, know that you belong here at NC State. Take care of yourself, take care of one another and be on the lookout in the days ahead for messages informing you of additional resources and opportunities for the campus community.

Thank you,

Randy Woodson
