Statement about NC State Baseball

6/26/2021

The NC State Baseball Team has shown their toughness, perseverance and excellence throughout this memorable season, and generated a great amount of excitement and pride throughout the Wolfpack family. Having to end the season due to COVID-19, just one victory away from playing for a national championship, is simply heartbreaking for all of the players who have worked so hard, as well as for their families, coaches, staff and our entire Pack.

NC State’s Athletic Department, coaches, staff and student-athletes have strictly followed the NCAA’s COVID-19 protocols. Still, several of our players tested positive for COVID and the NCAA was in a position of having to follow its own stated rules, as well as the rules of local health officials who consider more than four positive tests a cluster.

We all wish there had been a different outcome, and that this remarkable team could have had the opportunity to achieve its full potential. Today’s announcement, however, in no way diminishes all this team has achieved, the pride and appreciation we feel for each and all these players and coaches, or all they have accomplished for NC State.
