Looking Ahead to the Next Academic Year – June 2016

Dear NC State Students, Faculty and Staff:

We have closed the books on another successful academic year now that Commencement is behind us.

As always, it was a special event, and this year noteworthy because of a new milestone. This was the first year that NC State awarded more than 9,000 degrees in one year. NC State’s brand is growing by the day and the 26,000 applications we received this year is a testament to that.

When the next semester begins, we’ll have a number of new faces on campus – a freshman class eager to get their college careers underway, as well as some new faces among the campus leadership. Dr. Linda McCabe Smith, a North Carolina native, will be in place as our new Vice Provost for the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity. Marie Williams will become NC State’s new associate vice chancellor for human resources beginning July 1. And we have new deans in the colleges of Education and Design as well as the Poole College of Management.

The North Carolina legislature is back in Raleigh for their “short session.” Both the Senate and the House have unveiled their respective spending plans.  The two chambers will reconcile their differences before sending a final proposal to the governor.  We’re of course following the negotiations, but it will be some time before we know what a new budget means to NC State.

I hope you are having an enjoyable, safe summer and are able to spend time with family and friends. I know you are looking forward to the start of the 2016-2017 academic year as much as I am.

Sincerely,

Randy Woodson,
Chancellor
