Comments on Paris Attacks

Dear NC State Community:

Senseless tragedies at home and around the world have a real impact on members of our NC State family and our community overall. Last night’s terrorist attacks in Paris are the latest example.

On behalf of NC State, please let me offer my condolences to anyone in our community personally affected by last night’s horrible violence.

We don’t need to be personally involved in a tragic situation, however, to be affected. If the terrorist attacks in France, or any other situation, has you feeling depressed, scared or otherwise needing to talk with someone, we have counselors available for students 24 hours a day by calling 919-515-2423. Students can also visit the Counseling Center on the second floor of the Student Health Center on campus from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekdays. Faculty and staff can access confidential counseling through the university’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program by calling 866-467-0467.

In the midst of the shock and sadness surrounding yesterday’s attacks, I am pleased to let you know that NC State has only one student currently studying in Paris, and she has been contacted and confirmed to be safe. We have 17 others in France and our Office of International Affairs has reached out to make sure all  are aware of the support resources available to them while abroad.

Our university also has many French students on campus, including those enrolled in the SKEMA program in partnership with the Poole College of Management. NC State staff is contacting those students as well to let them know about support resources.

We like to say that “the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.” During this time, please take care of yourselves, look out to take care of other members of our Pack who might be hurting, and don’t hesitate to contact any of the many caring staff members at NC State who are here for you.

Sincerely,

Randy Woodson
Chancellor
