Rewarding our Employees

To NC State Faculty, Staff and Students:

The success NC State enjoys is the result of the dedication and hard work of our employees.  Recruiting, retaining and rewarding our faculty and staff is our highest priority.  We are most grateful that the North Carolina General Assembly included in the budget a $1,000 across-the-board salary increase plus associated benefits to all SPA employees (pro-rated for part-time employees).  I want to thank the HR and IT departments for working all last weekend to load the new calculations into the payroll system.  Thanks to their quick work, the salary increases for SPA employees will appear in their August pay, and it is retroactive to July 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year.

Our SPA employees have faced the brunt of budget cuts in recent years and we are very grateful for this opportunity to reward them for their commitment to NC State.

While the new budget did not include funding for raises for our EPA employees, it did lift many of the restrictions on the reasons for which appropriated funds can be used for salary adjustments.

Therefore, it is our intention to allow colleges and divisions to make salary adjustments to address merit, market and equity needs within the EPA non-faculty and faculty ranks.  There will be limits, of course, and these will be subject to any forthcoming guidance we receive from UNC General Administration and the realities of the budget after it is finalized by the Board of Governors in September.

The budget also includes five non-expiring bonus days for all employees.

Please be assured that I recognize how critical it is that we work hard to identify the resources that allow us to recruit, retain and reward the faculty and staff that make NC State a world class institution and an economic engine for North Carolina.

Thank you all for your commitment to our great university and I look forward to an outstanding year.

Sincerely,
Randy Woodson
